What an online doctor can assess

Most of a medical assessment rests on what you describe: when it started, how it has changed, what makes it worse, what medication you take. All of that transfers completely over a conversation, and the camera adds what can be seen.

Allergies — reactions to food, pollen, medication or stings, and ongoing allergy management.

Children — fevers, coughs, rashes, ear pain and stomach upsets. A parent or guardian books and stays with the child throughout.

Ongoing treatment and monitoring

If you take regular medication for a known condition — blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, allergies — an online consultation can make continuing it easier. The doctor reviews your current treatment and any recent results.

Sometimes they will decide that new tests or a reassessment are needed before treatment continues. That is proper follow-up, not an obstacle.

Referrals for tests

If your assessment points towards blood tests, imaging or other investigations, the doctor can issue a referral so you can have them done locally. You take the results back to a follow-up consultation, or to your own doctor.

Prescriptions

If you need documentation for work, the doctor can issue a sick note based on the assessment. As with everything else, whether one is appropriate is a clinical decision.
